Are you an experienced SEND leader with a passion for curriculum innovation and improving outcomes for pupils with Autism and additional learning needs? Do you have the vision, expertise and drive to lead the development of a high-quality pre-formal curriculum? This outstanding specialist school in Birmingham is seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to join its senior leadership team on a permanent basis from September or January. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead a specialist curriculum pathway for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation and ongoing development of a pre-formal curriculum that promotes communication, independence, engagement and personal development. As Assistant Headteacher, you will work closely with senior leaders, teachers, therapists and support staff to ensure that every pupil receives a meaningful and personalised education that prepares them for future success.

The Role:

  • Lead the design, implementation and evaluation of the school's pre-formal curriculum
  • Ensure outstanding provision for pupils with Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties
  • Drive improvements in teaching, learning and assessment across the pathway
  • Support and develop teachers, Teaching Assistants and middle leaders
  • Monitor pupil progress and ensure EHCP outcomes are effectively embedded into practice
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, families and external agencies
  • Contribute to whole-school leadership, strategic planning and school improvement
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, innovation and high expectations

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Significant experience within a SEND setting
  • Strong knowledge of Autism, pre-formal learning and specialist curriculum pathways
  • Experience leading curriculum development and school improvement initiatives
  • Previous leadership experience as an Assistant Headteacher, SENCO, Phase Leader or equivalent
  • Outstanding communication and leadership skills
  • A commitment to securing the very best outcomes for pupils with SEND
