We are looking for a skilled and motivated Engineering & Workshop Technician to join our college team. In this hands‑on role, you will provide essential technical support across our workshops and practical classes, ensuring that all tools, equipment, and materials are prepared, maintained, and safe for student use. You will assist teaching staff and students, contribute to the smooth running of practical sessions, and play a key role in maintaining high standards of health, safety, and efficiency within our technical areas. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare & Maintain: Set up tools, equipment, and materials for practical classes, assessments, and exams, ensuring all are safe, accessible, and well‑maintained.
- Student & Staff Support: Assist students and teaching staff during practical sessions, demonstrating equipment, providing guidance, and ensuring safe working practices.
- Organise & Monitor: Manage stock, materials, and specialist resources, monitor maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and college policies.
Person Specification
- Relevant qualification in a trade or mechanical/engineering‑related discipline.
- Strong technical knowledge and practical skills in mechanical engineering, fabrication, and welding, with experience applying these in a workshop or educational setting.
- Wide‑range experience and competence in using tools and equipment relevant to the trade.
- Good organisational skills and ability to respond effectively to changes in course content or teaching methods.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements for trade or engineering work, including risk assessment and safe workshop practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and establish effective working relationships.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to support staff and students and use IT effectively.
- Commitment to Equality & Diversity and Safeguarding, with practical ideas for implementation in the role.
- Willingness to work towards an Assessors Award.
