Be more than an educator. Be the reason a young person believes in a brighter future. Many of our young people with SEMH needs or SEN have faced challenges that have left them feeling discouraged or disconnected from education. Every child deserves someone who won’t give up on them - could that be you?

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for proactive, person-centred people to design and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark curiosity, confidence and a sense of hope for young people currently out of education in the Oxfordshire area. Whether it’s going on a trip to the shops to explore Maths, unlocking their imagination through stories and art, or using gaming to uncover the wonders of Science, you’ll inspire students to rediscover the joy of learning in a way that works for them. One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

With allowances for travel and resources and full support from our dedicated team, this flexible role gives you the freedom to deliver learning in the ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Working 1:1 or 2:1 with children and young people in their homes or specialist settings in Oxfordshire
  • Planning and delivering personalised, creative, educational sessions that reflect each learner’s needs, interests and abilities, particularly in Maths and English
  • Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
  • Engaging with students who may have ASD, ADHD, SEMH needs, GDD or complex needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
  • Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experience (at least 1 year) as teachers, tutors, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and education professionals who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • A background in Primary, Secondary, Functional Skills or Post 16 teaching, or specialist SEND environments
  • De-escalation and behaviour management skills
  • A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available
  • An up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection

What you can expect from Fresh Start in Education:

  • £25–£35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Travel subsidy and £15 per session resource allowance
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services, pension options and store discounts
  • Dedicated line manager, support and inclusion in a supportive, expert team
  • Bank staff role (PAYE), offering both short-term and long-term placements
