Fresh Start in Education are looking for experienced and person-centred SEN Learning Support Assistants to work on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with primary-aged children with learning, communication, sensory and personal care needs in their homes or educational settings.
This role involves planning and delivering communication, life skills and basic literacy and numeracy skills sessions in creative, practical and engaging ways on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, as well as supporting the child in a whole-class setting where appropriate. The role will also involve emotional and behavioural support, as well as providing personal care when necessary, supported by another member of staff. Knowledge of Makaton or PECS is desirable.
The placement:
- Working with your student on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis in their home or educational setting in the Oxford area
- Planning & delivering life skills, communication and early literacy/numeracy skills sessions on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis
- Supporting 1:1 or 2:1 in a class setting where appropriate
- Bank Staff worker – providing short-term provisions as and when they arise, paid via PAYE
What you need to apply:
- At least 1 year\'s professional experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs (SEN, SEMH needs and other barriers to learning)
- Experience planning and delivering life skills, communication and early literacy/numeracy skills sessions to primary-aged children
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS or Gestalt Language Processing
- A minimum of 2 consistent days a week availability
- A commitment to keeping children and young people safe and a practical and up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding
