Education and Behaviour Specialist

Department: Recruitment – Midlands

Employment Type: Contract

Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

Compensation: £25.00 – £35.00 / hour

Description

Can you inspire hope for the most vulnerable young people?
For those with SEN and SEMH needs, attending school can feel impossible. Overwhelming classrooms, lack of understanding and pressure on resources often leaves them without vital support and many end up unable to attend.
Working with Fresh Start in Education, you will have the opportunity to work with students on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis, outside of the classroom, in placements set up and supported by our dedicated team. You will plan and deliver bespoke learning programmes designed around your student’s needs and interests.
If you\’re passionate about supporting learners with SEND and want to make a meaningful difference, this could be the perfect fit for you.

This role is subject to an occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010. Due to the specific safeguarding needs of the student, we are seeking an Education Specialist who identifies as Black. This requirement is considered necessary to ensure the emotional safety and wellbeing of the individual receiving support, as advised by relevant safeguarding professionals.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing educational and behavioural support to a young person in their care home and out in the community.
  • Delivering personalised, creative sessions that reflect the learner’s needs, interests and abilities.
  • Sessions run during the school day (term time only) and typically last 3 to 5 hours.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Professionals with experience supporting young people who have SEN and SEMH needs, including ASD, challenging behaviour and those that are non-verbal.
  • Individuals who have experience delivering education to Post 16 learners who are working at lower academic levels.
  • Individuals who have experience using PECS or alternative methods of communication.
  • Individuals with a minimum of 2 consistent weekdays of availability.
  • Those with up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

What you can expect from Fresh Start in Education

  • £25–£35 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Travel subsidy & £15 per session resource allowance.
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services, pension options and store discounts.
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.
  • Dedicated line manager support and inclusion in a supportive, expert team.
  • Bank staff role (PAYE), offering both short-term and long-term placements.
