The Hive College is based in Erdington, Birmingham and is a Specialist Further Education College for learners aged 19-25 years with Special Educational Needs and disabilities. In November 2023 we were graded Outstanding in every single aspect of an Ofsted Inspection.

Our adopted college motto is ‘Believing is achieving’, which resonates through everything we do at The Hive and it’s at the heart of what we want our students to aspire to. We constantly strive for excellence, seeking innovative and collaborative ways of delivering the curriculum. As part of our on-going development of a highly successful specialist college, we have a Lunchtime Supervisor vacancy to join our team of professional and dedicated people.

We offer three individualised study programmes for students with PMLD, SLD, MLD and ASD. Our study programmes focus on preparation for adulthood, which include:

  • Employment
  • Independent living
  • Good health
  • Friends, relationships and community

The successful candidate will have:

  • The ability to support our values and ethos and be a positive role model.
  • A clear understanding of engaging with young adults with SEND needs.
  • Enthusiasm and energy to their role.
  • A flexible and positive approach to challenge and change.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to show initiative and work independently.
  • The ability to encourage students to improve their independence.

We can offer:

  • A collaborative and inclusive culture that values every employee.
  • A committed, hardworking team who strive to provide the best education for all students.
  • Comprehensive induction and probation support and regular opportunities for professional development and growth.
  • 10 staff training days across the academic year; one or two of these days may be aggregated which means completing training outside of normal working hours in twilight sessions.
  • An Employee Assistance Programme via the BHSF App – including free totally confidential support, access to a GP 24/7 and counselling.
  • Access to discounts and offers at many well-known retailers and other organisations via the BHSF App.
  • Access to a generous pension scheme known as the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for support staff or Teachers Pension Scheme (TPS) for Teachers.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement for support staff based on length of service, starting at 29 days pro-rata, rising to 32 at 5 years’ plus service and 34 following 10 years’ plus service. Teachers annual leave is in line with Teachers Pay & Conditions.
  • Family friendly policies.
  • Onsite parking at all sites.

We are the only Trust to provide SEN Allowances to ALL roles who work with students, including Teachers, TA’s, Care Assistants, Pastoral Care, Guides and Drivers.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students and expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS, Childcare Disqualification (where applicable), qualifications, medical fitness, identity and right to work. All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references. An online search (and a prohibition check for teachers) will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates. All successful candidates will be required to present their birth certificate along with evidence of any changes.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement of the role.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020 and 2023, which means that when applying for certain jobs and activities certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’, so they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account.
