We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) to join our senior leadership team and play a pivotal role in shaping an inclusive, nurturing and high‑achieving school environment. As Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion), you will lead and strategically develop the school's approach to SEND, inclusion, attendance, behaviour and pastoral support, ensuring that all pupils receive the guidance, intervention and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential. Working closely with staff, families, governors and external agencies, you will help create a culture where every pupil feels valued, supported and empowered to succeed. This role offers the opportunity to influence whole‑school improvement, contribute to strategic decision‑making and make a lasting impact on the lives of pupils, families and the wider school community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for inclusion, SEND and pastoral provision across the school.
  • Lead the development and implementation of inclusive practices that promote equity and achievement for all pupils.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND, intervention and pastoral support programmes.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, pastoral teams and safeguarding leads to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.
  • Analyse attendance, behaviour and achievement data to identify trends and implement targeted improvement strategies.
  • Support and coach staff in delivering high‑quality inclusive teaching and learning.
  • Lead on pupil wellbeing, behaviour and engagement initiatives.
  • Develop strong relationships with parents, carers, local authorities and external professionals.
  • Contribute to school self‑evaluation, improvement planning and Ofsted readiness.
  • Deputise for members of the senior leadership team when required.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Significant teaching experience with a proven record of raising standards and improving outcomes.
  • Experience in a leadership role such as SENCO, Assistant Headteacher, Deputy SENCO, Phase Leader, Inclusion Lead or Head of Year.
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice and inclusive education.
  • Experience leading whole‑school initiatives and driving school improvement.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and use evidence‑based approaches to improve outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, behaviour management and pastoral support.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive culture where all pupils can succeed.
