Location: Ashridge House, Berkhamsted, HP4 1NS

Reports to: Facilities Engineer

Hours: Alternate Weekend Role (Part time – on a rota basis) from 10:00-18:00

The Opportunity

At Ashridge, we pride ourselves on providing a well-maintained, welcoming, and professional environment for our guests, colleagues, and wider community. We are seeking a reliable and practical Handyperson to support the smooth day-to-day operation of our historic site. This role plays a key part in ensuring our facilities are safe, functional, and presented to a high standard, responding promptly to maintenance needs and carrying out planned preventative tasks. Working closely with the wider onsite team, the successful candidate will bring a hands-on, proactive approach, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent service in everything they do. This is a casual role; there are not any FT positions available at this time.

Responsibilities Include

  • Carrying out general maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Light changes
  • Heating control resets
  • Door sticking
  • Resetting trip switches
  • Minor repairs to fixtures and fittings
  • Replacing batteries
  • Basic plumbing tasks
  • Completing basic PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) checklists and undertaking any necessary remedial actions
  • Flushing tasks as required
  • Paintwork touch-ups and basic painting jobs
  • Working through maintenance task lists during quieter periods
  • Responding to guest-related maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Supporting the wider onsite team as required

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience with DIY and general maintenance tasks
  • Available to work weekends on a regular, rotational basis
  • A clear and confident communicator
  • Reliable, committed, and able to work independently
  • Practical, hands-on, and proactive in approach
