The Role - Support Worker
We are looking for a confident, caring, and experienced Support Worker to join a specialist SEN College in Croydon starting ASAP. As a Support Worker, you will work closely with young people who require additional behavioural, emotional, pastoral, and practical support. You will support students with a range of additional needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties, and complex learning needs.
The role will involve providing 1:1 and small-group support, helping students manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions, develop independence, and remain engaged with their learning. You will support students both inside and outside of the classroom, including during breaks, lunch, and other less structured periods of the day. You may also support students around the college and help them transition between lessons, activities, and different areas of the setting.
As a Support Worker, you will build positive and trusting relationships with students, providing consistent support and encouragement throughout the school day. You will use appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation strategies when required and help students develop positive coping strategies. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider SEN team to ensure students receive the appropriate support to access learning, develop their communication and social skills, build independence, and make positive progress. Experience with Physical Intervention, Team Teach, or other behaviour management training is highly desirable.
