About the role
EXCITING SHORT TERM (3-4 MONTHS) OPPORTUNITY IN TROPICAL BRUNEI SECONDARY TEACHERS. CfBT Education Services (which is part of Education Development Trust) has been working with the Brunei Darussalam government for 40 years in support of its bilingual education policy. We are looking for qualified and experienced secondary English teachers to work in government schools in Brunei Darussalam for a short-term contract from August - December 2026.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get a taste of teaching and living in a beautiful, tropical environment, helping local Bruneian children develop their English skills. You will be able to gain valuable and rewarding international experience in a high performing, bilingual education system, which obtained the greatest improvement in reading literacy in the world in the 2022 PISA results.
Due to the short-term nature of the contract this opportunity is only available as a single status, non-renewable contract. For a similar reason we are not accepting candidates from agencies for this contract.

You will receive an excellent salary and benefits package for this role including:
- A competitive tax-free salary up to BND$60,000 (£34.7K) FTE, paid pro-rata for the August–December 2026 contract period.

- Comparatively low cost of living.
To be eligible to apply you must:
- Hold a degree from a university in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, USA, or an EU country.
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status/teacher accreditation (PGCE, BEd etc.). A TEFL cert with degree is not sufficient.
- Have a minimum of 3 years relevant classroom teaching experience post qualification with at least 1 year experience of teaching English/ESL.
- Be able and willing to drive.
- Be under 55 years old at the time of arrival in Brunei Darussalam.
