1) Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require:
- (a) if employed as a teacher in a school under the reasonable direction of the principal;
- (b) if employed by a board on terms under which he/she is not assigned to any one school, under the reasonable direction of that board and of the principal of any school where he/she may be required to work.
2) Exercise of particular duties
(a) Teachers (excluding principals) shall perform duties as reasonably directed by the principal;
(b) Teachers employed by a board shall perform duties as reasonably directed by the board or principal of the school where they work.
3. Responsibilities
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons;
- Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work;
- Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils’ development and progress;
4. General duties
- Promoting pupils’ progress and well-being;
- Providing advice and guidance on educational, social, and career matters;
- Making records and reports on pupils’ personal and social needs;
- Communicating with parents and outside agencies;
- Participating in relevant meetings.
5. Assessment/Reporting
Contributing to assessments, reports, and references for pupils, while maintaining professional integrity.
6. Staff Development
- Participating in staff development schemes;
- Reviewing and developing teaching methods and programmes;
- Contributing to curriculum and pastoral development.
7. Discipline/Health and Safety
- Maintaining good order and discipline and safeguarding health and safety;
- Participating in school meetings related to curriculum and administration.
8. Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for exams, assessing, and supervising during exams.
9. Management and Administration
- Contributing to recruitment and professional development of staff;
- Managing work of other teachers;
- Participating in curriculum, organizational, and pastoral activities;
- Handling administrative tasks and support staff supervision;
- Attending assemblies, registering attendance, and supervising pupils.
10. Working Hours
- Full-time teachers are available for 195 days per year, with specific hours and break requirements;
11. Cover Responsibilities
Supervising pupils during teacher absences, with specific rules based on school size and teacher absence duration.

- Alignment with the school’s values and ethos.
Section 3 – Desirable Criteria
- Experience teaching a composite class and at least 6 months of teaching practice.
