JOB PURPOSE

Responsible individually or as a member of a team for the supervision of children and the maintenance of discipline for the children remaining on the school premises throughout the mid-day break (i.e., the interval between the close of morning school and the re-opening of school in the afternoon).

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the supervision of children in all areas of the school and grounds to ensure health and safety regulations are observed and school discipline is enforced.
  2. Liaise with the principal/senior supervisory assistant on all matters related to mid-day supervision.
  3. Deal with minor problems, accidents/sickness, and report any serious incidents to the principal/senior supervisory assistant immediately.
  4. Supervise children consuming meals and packed lunches, including:
    • The movement of children between classrooms and dining areas, including outside the school premises.
    • Supervision of queues, seating arrangements, and circulation of pupils to and from service points.
    • The conduct of diners during meals.
  5. Be responsible for:
    • Collection of dinner tickets where appropriate.
    • Distribution of meals within the dining area.
    • Ancillary duties such as cleaning spillages, clearing and cleaning tables, and litter removal from all food consumption areas.
    • Assisting children as necessary.
  6. Carry out duties related to cash cafeterias as delegated.
  7. Perform all duties in compliance with:
    • The Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978.
    • Applicable Acts of Parliament, regulations, and codes of practice.
  8. Perform all duties inherent to the job\’s working conditions.
  9. Complete all necessary paperwork.
  10. Carry out duties for jobs up to and including those in the same grade, provided they are within the employee\’s competence.
