Pool attendant

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment in Sports Hall for classes (e.g., boccia, badminton) and assist with PE classes
  • Ensure PE stores are clean and tidy
  • Set up equipment for organised school events (e.g., Sports Day) and help as required

Essential Criteria

  • Hold a current and valid Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • Have at least 2 years paid experience working as a Pool Lifeguard
  • Experience in understanding and enforcing swimming pool rules and regulations to ensure safety of users
  • Experience administering first aid
  • Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, especially in a swimming pool setting
  • Must be a strong swimmer
  • Ability to carry out regular checks of the changing facilities, ensuring safety, operation, cleanliness and hygiene
  • Skill and experience in pool surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
  • Ability to maintain vigilance without distraction to ensure pool safety immediately
  • Report any unusual pool water results and know when the pool is unsafe for use
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Commitment to teamwork and respect and consideration of others
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  • Understanding of Health and Safety at Work in a pool setting
  • Must be a strong swimmer

Section 2 – Additional Criteria

  • Ability to support the swimming teacher and pupils during lessons and follow instructions
  • Working knowledge of health and safety procedures in a pool environment
  • Ability to report and address pool safety concerns

Section 3 – Desirable Criteria

  • Qualified swimming instructor
  • First Aid qualification
  • Training/experience in use of a defibrillator
  • Willingness to undertake training and development when required

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as ‘regulated activity’. In the event that you are recommended for appointment to a post that involves ‘regulated activity’, the Education Authority will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background.
