JOB PURPOSE
To operate a vehicle carefully and lawfully, ensuring the safety of passengers and the proper handling of equipment.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transport children, including those with mobility issues or learning difficulties, to and from school or other authorized locations.
- Assist children, especially those with mobility problems, in boarding and alighting from the vehicle.
- Maintain good behavior among children on the bus and report incidents to the Transport Officer or designated person.
- Operate vehicle lifts and ramps as needed, ensuring wheelchairs are properly secured.
- Provide minor first aid and ensure injured children receive medical attention promptly, completing relevant reports.
- Supervise School Bus escorts in assisting with duties.
- Transport meals to and from School Meals Kitchens and assist at schools as required.
- Adhere to scheduled timings, keep detailed journey logs, and record vehicle maintenance and fuel issues.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, including fuel, oil, water levels, and tire pressures.
- Complete defect reports and submit them to the engineering team.
- Comply with EU drivers’ hours, Tachograph regulations, and Working Time Directive.
- Safeguard all spare parts, tools, and equipment in the vehicle.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and interior tidiness.
- Follow the Education Authority’s Drivers’ Manual and legal requirements including health and safety regulations.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and perform duties within the scope of the employee\'s competence.
