JOB PURPOSE

To operate a vehicle carefully and lawfully, ensuring the safety of passengers and the proper handling of equipment.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Transport children, including those with mobility issues or learning difficulties, to and from school or other authorized locations.
  2. Assist children, especially those with mobility problems, in boarding and alighting from the vehicle.
  3. Maintain good behavior among children on the bus and report incidents to the Transport Officer or designated person.
  4. Operate vehicle lifts and ramps as needed, ensuring wheelchairs are properly secured.
  5. Provide minor first aid and ensure injured children receive medical attention promptly, completing relevant reports.
  6. Supervise School Bus escorts in assisting with duties.
  7. Transport meals to and from School Meals Kitchens and assist at schools as required.
  8. Adhere to scheduled timings, keep detailed journey logs, and record vehicle maintenance and fuel issues.
  9. Perform daily vehicle checks, including fuel, oil, water levels, and tire pressures.
  10. Complete defect reports and submit them to the engineering team.
  11. Comply with EU drivers’ hours, Tachograph regulations, and Working Time Directive.
  12. Safeguard all spare parts, tools, and equipment in the vehicle.
  13. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and interior tidiness.
  14. Follow the Education Authority’s Drivers’ Manual and legal requirements including health and safety regulations.
  15. Complete all necessary paperwork and perform duties within the scope of the employee\'s competence.
