JOB PURPOSE
Under the direction of the class teacher, assist with the educational support and care of the children in a designated class, in or outside the classroom.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The precise duties of the post will be determined by the Principal and may include all or some of the duties listed below.
CLASSROOM SUPPORT
- Work as part of a team to promote the efficient running of the class under the leadership of the teacher.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding home/child/teacher relationships.
- Establish supportive relationships with children and parents.
- Assist children learning both indoors and outdoors by clarifying instructions, ensuring proper use of equipment, motivating children, and supporting development in areas like physical skills, language, and behavior.
- Contribute to planning, implementing, and reviewing curriculum areas as directed by the teacher.
- Prepare learning materials and resources.
- Assist in planning, preparing, and displaying children’s work.
- Observe, record, and evaluate children’s progress as directed.
- Set up, clean, and maintain equipment.
- Participate in classroom activities and special events.
- Promote positive behavior and a safe environment.
- Assist with toileting, personal hygiene, and dressing of children.
- Support children with routine medicines and deal with minor injuries.
- Report any concerns about child welfare to the Child Protection Officer.
- Contribute to planning and preparing snacks in line with health policies.
ADMINISTRATION
- Assist with classroom administration tasks such as collecting dinner money and managing lost property.
- Provide feedback on children’s progress to the teacher.
OTHER DUTIES
- Attend training and staff meetings, and participate in policy review.
- Support training of non-teaching students.
