Reports To: Principal

Professional Duties

  • Planning – plan and prepare courses and lessons; teach pupils; assess, record and report on pupil progress.
  • General – promote pupil progress and well‐being; provide advice and guidance; maintain communication with parents; cooperate with external bodies; attend relevant meetings.
  • Assessment / Reporting – contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references for pupils.
  • Staff Development – participate in staff development schemes; review teaching methods; pursue further training; advise on curriculum development, teaching materials and assessment.
  • Discipline / Health & Safety – maintain order and discipline; safeguard health and safety of pupils on premises and during authorised activities.
  • Public Examinations – prepare pupils for examinations; assess and report on examination results; supervise examination presentations.
  • Review & Administration – support teacher recruitment, induction, and assessment; manage administrative tasks and coordination of support staff.
  • Working Hours – a full‐time teacher is available for 195 days a year (max 190 teaching days); 1,265 hours per year; observe specified breaks.
  • Staff Cover – supervise and teach pupils when another teacher is unavailable, following coverage guidelines.
  • Additional duties of a similar nature may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised teaching qualification for grant‐aid schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Honours degree (min 2:2) in English or a cognate high‐academic subject, or a degree with a high academic content in English A‐level.
  • Grade C (or higher) in English A‐level (or equivalent).
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before appointment.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, teaching strategies, ICT use, and current assessment methods.
  • Effective classroom management and inclusive learning environment skills.
  • Collaborative and motivating behaviour, with a caring, pupil‐centred approach.

Desirable

  • Honours degree (min 2:1) in English or a related subject.
  • Grade A*–B in English A‐level (or equivalent).
  • Qualifications or training for Religious Studies, other GCSE subjects, or additional subjects as required.
  • Experience teaching A‐level English or other GCSE subjects.
  • Experience facilitating Games programme, extracurricular activities or drama productions.
