JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Teacher – Primary REPORTS TO: Principal PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER Regulations Terms and Conditions of Employment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5: Exercise of general professional duties : A teacher shall carry out professional duties as required, under the reasonable direction of the principal or the employing authority. Exercise of particular duties : Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessment, student well-being, and participation in meetings. Key Responsibilities include: Planning and preparing lessons Teaching and assessing students Promoting student well-being and providing guidance Participating in staff development and training Maintaining discipline and health and safety standards Preparing students for public examinations Contributing to school management activities Managing workload within specified hours and days Providing cover for absent teachers as required Other duties may be assigned as appropriate. The post-holder is expected to promote equality and good relations in accordance with legislation. Section 1 – Essential Criteria Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification for Northern Ireland Experience: Minimum 5 years supporting diverse learners, including those with SEN; experience with challenging behavior management Registration: Registered with GTCNI before starting Section 2 – Additional Essential Criteria Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, and IT tools Skills: Effective teaching, classroom management, collaboration, and problem-solving Values: Alignment with school ethos and values Section 3 – Desirable Criteria Additional qualifications like Team Teach, language programmes, monitoring pupil progress, experience in SPiM or special schools, extensive SEN experience Disclosure of Criminal Background Enhanced Disclosure required for regulated activity involving children.
