PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
Regulations Terms and Conditions of Employment Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987, Schedule 3, Regulation 5:
- Exercise of general professional duties: A teacher shall carry out professional duties as required, under the reasonable direction of the principal or the employing authority.
- Exercise of particular duties: Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including planning, teaching, assessment, student well-being, and participation in meetings.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Planning and preparing lessons
- Teaching and assessing students
- Promoting student well-being and providing guidance
- Participating in staff development and training
- Maintaining discipline and health and safety standards
- Preparing students for public examinations
- Contributing to school management activities
- Managing workload within specified hours and days
- Providing cover for absent teachers as required
- Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
The post-holder is expected to promote equality and good relations in accordance with legislation.

- Qualifications: Recognized teaching qualification for Northern Ireland

- Knowledge of NI Curriculum, Safeguarding, SEND Code of Practice, and IT tools
- Skills: Effective teaching, classroom management, collaboration, and problem-solving

Section 3 - Desirable Criteria
- Additional qualifications like Team Teach, language programmes, monitoring pupil progress, experience in SPiM or special schools, extensive SEN experience
