Teacher – Special

Reports to: Principal.

Professional Duties

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and courses.
  • Teach pupils, set and mark work, and assess progress.
  • Promote each pupil’s progress, well‑being and learning.
  • Provide guidance on education, social matters and future careers.
  • Communicate and consult with parents and relevant external bodies.
  • Participate in meetings, professional reviews and staff development.
  • Maintain discipline, health and safety standards in accordance with policy.
  • Assist with public examinations and related arrangements.
  • Contribute to administrative tasks, selection and induction of teachers.
  • Commit to 195 teaching days per year (maximum 190 inclusive) and 1,265 working hours per year.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Holding a teaching qualification recognised for teaching in grant‑awarded schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).
  • Minimum three years’ demonstrable experience using effective classroom strategies for pupils of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
  • Experience with digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with professionals to support pupils with Special Educational Needs.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding & Child Protection policy, SEND Code of Practice and current assessment methods for pupils with SEN.
  • Knowledge of restorative practice and digital classroom tools.
