Professional Duties of a Teacher
- Exercise of general professional duties under the reasonable direction of the principal or board.
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching according to pupils' educational needs, and assessing their progress.
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and groups.
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters.
- Communicating with parents and cooperating with external bodies approved by the employing authority.
- Participating in meetings related to curriculum and school administration.
- Providing assessments, reports, and references for pupils.
- Participating in staff development and performance review.
- Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety.
- Participating in arrangements for public examinations.
- Contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers.
- Participating in administrative tasks related to curriculum and pastoral functions.
Number of days/Hours of work:
- A full-time teacher shall be available for work on 195 days, with not more than 190 days involving classroom teaching.
- A teacher may not be required to teach for more than 25 hours per week in primary or special schools.
- Teachers shall have a break of at least 30 minutes between 12 noon and 2:00 pm.
Staff cover:
- Supervising and teaching pupils whose teacher is unavailable, with specific conditions based on school enrolment.

Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Qualifications: Hold a teaching qualification recognised in Northern Ireland.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years’ experience in teaching Foundation and Key Stage 1, job share situations, and using various teaching strategies.
- Other: Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
Person Specification – Additional Essential Criteria
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding and Child Protection policy, SEND Code of Practice, and current assessment methods.
- Skills: Effective teaching and classroom management skills, ability to inspire and challenge pupils, and work collaboratively.

- Experience in teaching a Primary 2/3 composite class and coordinating areas of the school curriculum.
