Reports To: Principal
Responsibilities:
- Exercise general professional duties as directed by the Principal or Board.
- Perform particular duties (e.g., teaching, curriculum preparation, staff development) as reasonably assigned.
- Plan, prepare, teach and assess lessons, including marking student work.
- Provide student support: promote progress, give guidance on education and careers, maintain student records.
- Communicate with parents and external parties as approved by the Board.
- Contribute to oral and written assessments and reports.
- Participate in staff development schemes, review teaching methods, and support professional development.
- Maintain discipline and ensure health; coordinate or manage other teachers.
- Assist in administrative tasks such as supply work and ordering equipment.
- Adhere to required working hours: up to 1,265 hours a year for part‑time teachers, with scheduled breaks.
Qualifications / Professional Membership:
- Teaching qualification recognised for Government and Politics in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Level 6 qualification (degree or equivalent) prepared for teaching Government, Politics and History.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
Essential Experience:
- Ability to teach Government and Politics and History to GCSE.
- Minimum 10 weeks of demonstrable experience teaching Government and Politics at A‑Level and achieving positive learning outcomes.
- Experience using effective classroom approaches for children of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
Additional Essential Criteria (Interview):
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding.
