ESSENTIAL CRITERIA – Qualification & Membership

  • Hold a teaching qualification recognised by the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland.
  • Hold a degree prepared for teaching EAL and French & Spanish as main subject.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA – Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of demonstrable experience teaching EAL with French & Spanish at Key Stage 3.
  • Experience using varied teaching strategies to meet pupil learning needs.
  • Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and community.
  • Effective use of assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding and child protection, SEND Code of Practice, IT systems, etc.
  • Evidence of alignment with School’s Values/ethos.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Experience assisting with Sports or coordinating extracurricular activities.
  • Experience teaching pupils with English as a second language.
  • Experience teaching children in withdrawal groups.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER

  • Plan, prepare and deliver training, lessons and coursework.
  • Assess, record and report on pupil progress and attainment.
  • Promote pupil well‑being and progress; provide advice and guidance.
  • Communicate with parents and coordinate with external agencies as needed.
  • Participate in meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Maintain discipline, health and safety, and support school policies.
  • Prepare and support pupils for public examinations.
  • Contribute to staff development, performance reviews and professional growth.
  • Play a role in the selection, induction and assessment of other teachers.
  • Manage administrative and organisational duties, including resources and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and equal opportunity principles.
