Essential Criteria

  • Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage One or Key Stage Two for at least 1 year achieving positive learning outcomes.
  • Experience using a range of effective classroom strategies to support and challenge all pupils.
  • Experience using digital media/technology to enhance planning, teaching and assessment.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and raise achievement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to motivate oneself and others.
  • Evidence that your work reflects the school's values and ethos.
  • Register with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before taking up the post.

  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Knowledge of information technology systems, digital classroom tools and mobile technologies.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and the community.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience leading a school life area such as eco‑schools, music, drama, sport.
  • Willingness and experience in participating in extended schools activities.
  • Relevant qualification for at least one specialist subject area (e.g., music, drama, sport).
  • Minimum of 2 years' demonstrable experience teaching in a primary school.

Professional Duties

  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Teach pupils according to their educational needs, setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment.
  • Promote the progress and well‑being of pupils and provide advice and guidance.
  • Communicate and consult with parents and external parties as required.
  • Participate in meetings, staff development and performance reviews.
  • Review teaching methods and curricula, cooperate with the principal and other teachers.
  • Maintain discipline, safeguard health and safety, participate in relevant meetings.
  • Prepare pupils for public examinations and manage assessment and reporting.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of other teachers, coordinate team work.
  • Perform administrative and organisational tasks related to curriculum and pastoral functions.
  • Adhere to working hours, breaks and staff cover requirements.
