Professional Duties:
- Exercise general professional duties as directed by the principal.
- Exercise particular duties as directed by the board or principal.
- Plan, prepare, teach, set and mark work for pupils.
- Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment.
- Promote the general progress and well-being of any class or group of pupils.
- Provide advice and guidance on educational and social matters and on further education and future careers.
- Communicate with parents and external bodies as required.
- Participate in meetings, staff development schemes, performance reviews and further training programmes.
- Maintain discipline and safeguarding health and safety of pupils on and off school premises.
- Assist in preparing pupils for examinations, assessing pupils and supervising examination procedures.
- Contribute to the selection, induction and development of other teachers, coordinate or manage the work of other teachers, and participate in management and administrative tasks related to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions.
- Work the required hours and days and observe mandatory breaks.
Essential Criteria:
- Hold a teaching qualification recognised in Northern Ireland.
- Minimum two years’ demonstrable experience teaching a Key Stage 2 class with positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience using digital classroom tools and tablets/mobile technologies.
- Demonstrable experience running an extra-curricular club.
- Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
- Knowledge of classroom strategies for children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection policy/practice.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
- Ability to work collaboratively, motivate self and others, manage classroom and inspire and challenge pupils.
- Ability to use initiative, solve problems and adapt flexibly.
- Evidence of experience and approach to work reflecting the school’s values/ethos.
Desirable Criteria:
- One year’s demonstrable experience teaching P6 with positive learning outcomes.
- Experience attending school residential trips.
- Experience assisting with dramatic productions.
- Experience assisting with or coordinating an area of the curriculum.
