Responsibilities
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
- Teaching pupils according to educational needs, including setting and marking work.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
- Promoting pupil progress and well-being and providing advice on educational and social matters.
- Recording and reporting personal and social needs of pupils.
- Communicating and consulting with parents and external bodies.
- Participating in meetings and professional development schemes.
- Maintaining good order, discipline, health and safety of pupils.
- Participating in arrangements for public examinations and related supervision.
- Co-ordinating or managing work of other teachers and contributing to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions.
- Providing staff development and performance review.
- Adhering to the school’s policies on safeguarding, child protection and SEND.
- Providing staff cover when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification for teaching Music as a main subject.
- Minimum of 1 year of demonstrable experience teaching Music at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Experience using a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils’ learning needs.
- Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before appointment.
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding, child protection, SEND Code of Practice, IT systems and assessment methods.
- Effective classroom management skills and ability to provide an inclusive environment.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching Music at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Experience planning and delivering extra-curricular provision to enhance music skills.
