Job Description

Responsible to: Cleaning Supervisor or other authorised person.

Job Purpose: Undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of any area within the premises, designated by the line manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweep, suction‑clean, mop, dry buff, spray clean, spray wax, machine scrub, dry, strip and re‑polish floors using appropriate equipment.
  • Clean and remove stains of soft‑floor surfaces (carpets/matting) using appropriate methods.
  • Clean toilet and shower areas, including fixtures and fittings.
  • Clean, wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings and internal surfaces up to 3.35 m, polishing furniture where appropriate.
  • Empty and clean internal litter bins and remove litter to designated collection points.
  • Comply with Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, statutory instruments, COSHH, codes of practice.
  • Carry out duties under normal working conditions inherent to the job and cover colleagues on sick leave.
  • Report absence in line with the Authority’s procedure.
  • Wear protective clothing or workwear issued, and wear flat‑soled enclosed‑toe footwear.
  • Use, care for, and report defects in any cleaning equipment issued.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform duties up to and including those within the employee’s grade.

Training

Acceptance of training for jobs graded higher than the employee’s own grade; payment made only when higher‑level duties are required. Training to include induction and refresher training.

Legal and Safeguarding

Evidence of a compliant criminal background check is required where the role involves 'regulated activity'; the applicant will cover the cost of the enhanced disclosure certificate. The Education Authority is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
