Essential Criteria
- Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland. Qualifications must be obtained before taking up appointment.
- Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
- Minimum of 1 year of demonstrable experience teaching pupils at Foundation Stage to achieve positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
- Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
- Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils.
- Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.

- Demonstrable experience of assisting with the delivery of Play Based Learning at Foundation Stage.
- Demonstrable experience of teaching pupils for whom English is not their first language.

- Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background is required for regulated activity. Applicants will be expected to cover the cost.
Professional Duties of a Teacher
- Exercise general professional duties: acting under the direction of the principal or board as required.
- Teaching duties: Planning and preparing courses and lessons. Teaching students according to their educational needs, setting and marking work. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils. Promoting the general progress and well‑being of individual pupils and of any class or group. Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters and on further education and future careers. Communicating and consulting with parents of pupils. Communicating and cooperating with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority and Board of Governors. Participating in meetings arranged for any of the above purposes.
- Assessment/Reporting: Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references.
- Staff Development/Professional Development: Participating in staff development and performance review schemes. Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work. Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development. Advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, methods, assessment and pastoral arrangements.
- Discipline & Health and Safety: Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils, safeguarding their health and safety.
- Public Examinations: Participating in preparing pupils for public examinations, assessing and recording assessments.
- Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration: Contributing to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers. Co‑ordinating or managing the work of other teachers. Participating in administrative tasks related to curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions. Managing or supervising support staff and ordering materials. Attending assemblies and supervising attendance.
Work schedule: Full‑time teacher available for 195 working days a year (maximum 190 days). Staff cover responsibilities as outlined for schools with various enrollment levels.
