Reports to Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher:
- Exercise general professional duties under the reasonable direction of the principal.
- Exercise particular duties as assigned by the principal or the board, including specific teaching tasks and other responsibilities.
- Plan and prepare courses and lessons; conduct teaching, including setting and marking pupils’ work.
- Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment.
- Promote pupil progress and well-being, provide academic and social guidance, and communicate with parents.
- Participate in meetings, staff development schemes, performance reviews and further training.
- Maintain discipline and uphold safeguarding and health and safety policies; monitor pupil conduct during school activities.
- Prepare pupils for public examinations, assess and report on examination results.
- Contribute to the selection and development of other teachers and to curriculum, organisational and pastoral management.
- Provide cover for absent teachers subject to school size and staffing policies.
- Work an average of 195 days annually, with specific provisions for instructional hours and breaks.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Teaching qualification recognised in Northern Ireland for grant-aided schools.
- Degree at least 2:1 (or equivalent Level 6) prepared for teaching History to A Level.
- Demonstrated experience teaching History to A Level and using effective classroom approaches for all learners, including those with Special Educational Needs.
- Experience using information technology systems such as digital classroom tools, media, tablets or mobile technologies to enhance learning.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before appointment.
Additional Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and subject-specific teaching techniques.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection policy and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Knowledge of information technology systems for classroom use.
