Reports To: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher:
- Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
- Teach pupils in accordance with their educational needs, setting and marking work.
- Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment.
- Promote the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and groups.
- Provide advice, guidance and support to pupils on educational, social, and career matters.
- Communicate with parents and, where appropriate, with outside agencies and the school board.
- Participate in meetings and staff development activities.
- Maintain discipline, safeguarding, health and safety in accordance with policy.
- Prepare pupils for public examinations and support examination arrangements.
- Contribute to recruitment, induction, assessment and ongoing development of other teachers.
- Perform general school responsibilities such as attending assemblies, registering attendance and supervising pupils in school activities.
- Observing and managing staff and pupil schedules in accordance with the school timetable.
Essential Criteria:
Qualifications / Professional Membership:- Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Hold a degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent Level 6) prepared for teaching English Literature to A Level.
- Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
- Demonstrable experience teaching English Language to GCSE and English Literature to A Level.
- Experience teaching Drama or Theatre Studies at Key Stage 4 and/or Key Stage 5.
- Experience using effective classroom approaches for pupils of all abilities, including those with SEND.
- Experience using Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools, tablets and mobile technologies.
Other:
- Pre-employment checks will be undertaken.
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and subject-specific teaching approaches.
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding, Child Protection policy and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and use of IT in lessons.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Effective teaching and classroom management to raise achievement.
- Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborative working with students, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
- Teamworking and motivation of self and others.
- Assistance with extra-curricular activities.
- Evidence of how experience and work approach reflect the college’s values/ethos.
- Minimum 3 months of demonstrable experience teaching English Literature at A Level.
- Ability to assist and/or co-ordinate the college dramatic production.
- Experience monitoring student progress, performance, target setting and intervention.
