REPORTS TO: Principal

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES:

  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Teach pupils, setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
  • Promote pupils’ general progress and well-being and provide guidance on educational and social matters.
  • Communicate with parents and external bodies as required.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development schemes.
  • Maintain discipline and safeguard pupils’ health and safety.
  • Support pupils in preparing for public examinations and supervising them during such exams.
  • Take part in administrative duties, including selection of other teachers and management of classroom resources.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Qualifications / Professional Membership:
  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification for NI schools.
  • Hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification or teaching qualification in any curriculum subject.
  • Registered with the GTCNI before taking up the post.
Experience:
  • Demonstrable experience teaching a range of subjects at Key Stage 2 or 3 with positive learning outcomes.
  • Experience of differentiated teaching for pupils with SEN, EAL and gifted and talented learners.
Knowledge:
  • Northern Ireland Curriculum.
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
  • SEND Code of Practice.
  • Teaching strategies to meet varied learning needs.
  • Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools and tablets.
  • Current assessment methods.
Skills / Abilities:
  • Effective teaching and classroom management to inspire and challenge pupils.
  • Provision of a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaboration to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Teamworking and motivation of self and others.
Values / Ethos:
  • Evidence of alignment with the school’s values and ethos.
