Reports To: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher:
- Exercise general professional duties.
- Exercise particular duties and special tasks as assigned by Principal or Board.
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
- Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including marking work.
- Assessing, recording and reporting pupils’ progress and attainment.
- Promoting pupils’ well-being and progress.
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational, social matters, further education and career options.
- Communicating and consulting with pupils’ parents.
- Co-operating with approved external persons or bodies.
- Participating in meetings relating to curriculum or school organisation.
- Providing oral and written assessments, reports and references.
- Participating in staff development, performance review schemes and further professional training.
- Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work.
- Co-operating with Principal and other teachers on course development and pastoral arrangements.
- Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety of pupils.
- Participating in meetings on curriculum and administration.
- Preparing pupils for public examinations and assessing them.
- Contributing to selection, induction, assessment, coordination and management of other teachers.
- Managing administrative and organisational tasks related to curriculum and pastoral functions.
- Ensuring attendance and supervising pupils during school sessions or assemblies.
- Meeting prescribed working days and hours: full-time teacher required to work 195 days a year, with specified hours of teaching and breaks.
- Supervising and teaching pupils whose teacher is unavailable, within defined enrolment limits.
Qualifications:
- Teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
Experience:
- Minimum six months post-qualification experience teaching Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 to achieve positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrable experience in delivering effective phonics instruction within Foundation Stage.
- Proven ability to plan, implement and evaluate high-quality play-based learning experiences within the Foundation Stage curriculum.
- Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a mainstream classroom, with evidence of inclusive practice.

- Collaboration and positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
- Teamworking skills and motivation of self and others.
