REPORTS TO: Principal
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
- Attendance to duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and school policies.
- Exercise of general professional duties: a teacher shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require, under the reasonable direction of the principal or board as applicable.
- Planning and preparation: planning and preparing courses and lessons; teaching the pupils assigned to him/her; setting and marking work to be carried out by the pupils in school and elsewhere; assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.
- General responsibilities: promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils; providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters; making records and reports on pupils; communicating with parents; cooperating with outside bodies as approved by the employing authority; participating in meetings.
- Discipline/Health and Safety: maintaining good order and safeguarding pupil health and safety on and off school premises as required.
- Public Examinations: participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations, assessing pupils for such examinations, and supervising during examinations.
- Staff Development/Professional Development: participating in staff development plans and training; reviewing teaching methods and programmes; advising and cooperating with the Principal and other teachers on curriculum and pastoral arrangements.
- Administrative/Management tasks: contributing to staff development, selection and induction of teachers; coordinating work of other teachers; management of curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions; attending assemblies and supervising attendance where required.
- Other duties: performing such other duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time; promoting good relations and equality in line with relevant legislation.
SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Qualifications/ Professional Membership: Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland. Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
- Experience: Demonstrable experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies to provide support and challenge children and young people of all abilities. Demonstrable experience of using digital media/technology to enhance planning, teaching, learning and assessment. Evidence of effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement. Ability to work collaboratively as an effective member of a team and to motivate self and others. Evidence of how your experience and approach to work reflect the school's values/ethos.
- Other: Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Knowledge: Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice. Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice. Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of pupils. Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools/media and the use of tablets/mobile technologies. Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.
- Skills / Abilities: Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement. Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment. Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible. Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community. Ability to work as an effective member of a team, and to motivate self and others.

SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Demonstrable experience/willingness in assisting with the delivery of Music/Numeracy/UICT in a whole school environment.
- An aptitude and commitment to develop sport in Ballyclare Primary School.
- An aptitude and interest in leading in the delivery of Outdoor Learning/Forest Schools.
- A willingness and experience in participating in Extended Schools activities including after school clubs, school events and residential visits.
- Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching in a primary school to achieve positive learning outcomes by date of taking up appointment.
