Reports To: Principal

Professional Duties:

  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons for Key Stage 2 pupils.
  • Deliver teaching and learning activities, including setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
  • Promote the general progress, well-being and safety of pupils, providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters.
  • Communicate and consult with parents, colleagues, teachers and wider community partners.
  • Maintain discipline and ensure pupils remain safe during school hours and authorised school activities elsewhere.
  • Participate in staff development, performance review and professional development schemes.
  • Review and refine teaching methods and programmes of work, and contribute to the preparation of teaching materials and assessment tools.
  • Assist in the preparation of pupils for public examinations and in the recording and reporting of assessment outcomes.
  • Support the selection, training and induction of other teachers where required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching Key Stage 2 pupils in a paid capacity for at least two years, including support and challenge for pupils of all abilities and those with Special Educational Needs.
  • Demonstrable experience using a range of effective classroom strategies, digital media/technology, and monitoring pupil progress, performance, target setting and intervention.
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding and Child Protection policy, SEND Code of Practice, a range of teaching strategies, IT systems and assessment methods.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills, ability to work collaboratively, motivate self and others, and provide an inclusive learning environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience teaching Primary 6 or 7 with positive outcomes.
  • Experience coordinating an area of curriculum, particularly Numeracy.
  • Experience delivering Music in a school environment.
  • Experience teaching pupils for whom English is not their first language.
  • Experience teaching in withdrawal groups to support learning.
