Reports To: Principal

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
  • Teach pupils, including setting and marking work.
  • Assess, record and report on pupils' development, progress and attainment.
  • Promote pupils’ general progress, well-being and career guidance.
  • Provide advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters, including record keeping.
  • Communicate and consult with pupils’ parents.
  • Co-operate with external persons or bodies approved by the employer or board.
  • Participate in meetings and develop staff and professional development schemes.
  • Maintain order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety.
  • Support pupils for public examinations, including assessment and supervision.
  • Assist in selection, assessment and coordination of other teachers, including induction.
  • Perform other teaching or support duties as required and be available for a full-time schedule of 195 days per year.

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications / Professional Membership: Teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland. Qualifications must be obtained by the appointment date. Registration with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of paid, demonstrable teaching experience at Key Stage 2 producing positive learning outcomes. Demonstrable use of varied classroom strategies, including support for children of all abilities and those with Special Educational Needs. Demonstrable use of digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child-Protection policy/practice. Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils’ learning needs.
  • Skills & Abilities: Effective teaching and classroom management to inspire and challenge pupils. Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment. Collaborative skill to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and community. Teamworking and motivation of self and others.
  • Values / School Ethos: Evidence of how experience and approach reflect the school’s values/ethos.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Qualifications and Experience: Minimum 3 years of paid, demonstrable teaching experience at Key Stage 2. Experience and willingness to assist with Physical Education and after-school sports programmes. Experience and willingness to lead in development of a School Council.
