Reports To: Principal

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise of general professional duties under the reasonable direction of the principal or the board.
  • Exercise of particular duties assigned by the principal or board as required.
  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons for pupils.
  • Teaching assigned pupils, including marking and delivering work in school and elsewhere.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
  • Promoting the progress and well-being of individual pupils and classes.
  • Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters, further education and future careers.
  • Communicating and consulting with parents of pupils.
  • Co-operating with approved external persons or bodies as sanctioned by the employing authority and the Board of Governors.
  • Participating in meetings related to pupils’ progress and well-being.
  • Contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references for pupils.
  • Participating in staff development schemes and performance reviews.
  • Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work and attending further professional development opportunities.
  • Advising and cooperating with the principal and other teachers on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, and pastoral arrangements.
  • Maintaining order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both on and off school premises.
  • Participating in meetings that regard curriculum, administration and organisation of the school, including pastoral functions.
  • Arranging and supervising pupils for public examinations, including assessment, recording and reporting.
  • Contributing to the selection, induction and assessment of other teachers, and coordinating or managing the work of other teachers.
  • Managing administrative tasks related to support staff, ordering and allocating equipment and materials.
  • Registering attendance of pupils and supervising pupils during assemblies.

Availability: full-time teacher available for 195 days in a year, with specified hours and breaks as required. Providing staff cover as required, with clear limits on coverage days based on school enrolment.

Qualifications & Essential Criteria:

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification appropriate for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Minimum of 1 year demonstrable experience teaching at Foundation Stage or similar level.
  • Experience in using a range of classroom strategies to support and challenge pupils of all abilities, including those with special educational needs.
  • Experience in using digital media and technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before starting the post.
  • Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding and child protection policies, SEND code of practice, standards of assessment, and applicable IT systems.
  • Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
  • Capability to create a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Problem-solving, initiative and flexibility in responding to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
  • Teamworking and motivation skills, both for self and others.
  • Evidence of alignment with the school’s values and ethos.
