Reports to: Principal.
Professional Duties
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons in accordance with the Northern Ireland Curriculum, promoting progress and well-being.
- Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
- Maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment, using effective classroom strategies and digital media to challenge all abilities, including students with special educational needs.
- Manage discipline and health and safety in line with school policy.
- Communicate with pupils, parents, colleagues, the broader community and external bodies, and participate in meetings relating to curriculum, pastoral care and professional development.
- Contribute to the development of courses of study, teaching materials and assessment methods, and support the school’s commitment to equality and diversity.
- Provide staff development and performance reviews, reviewing and adjusting teaching methods and programs.
- Take on additional duties as defined by the principal or governing board, such as staff coordination or administrative tasks.
Essential Criteria – Section 1
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
- Register with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before appointment.
- Minimum of two years’ paid experience teaching Key Stage 1/Foundation Stage, achieving positive learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience using a range of classroom strategies for all abilities, including students with Special Educational Needs.
- Demonstrated experience using digital media or technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Essential Criteria – Section 2
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding and child protection policy, the SEND Code of Practice, and a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils’ learning needs.
- Effective teaching and classroom management skills that inspire and challenge pupils.
- Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
- Ability to work as an effective team member, motivating self and others.
- Evidence that your experience and approach reflect the school’s values and ethos.
Desirable Criteria – Section 3
- Minimum of three years’ paid experience teaching Key Stage 1/Foundation Stage.
- Experience delivering literacy and/or numeracy intervention.
- Experience supporting the SENCo by coordinating provision and resources across the school.
- Experience planning and delivering outdoor learning at Foundation/Key Stage 1.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
Because this role may involve sanctioned activity, an enhanced Disclosure Certificate is required. Applicants will bear the cost of the certificate.
