SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Qualifications / Professional Membership
    Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements for recognising to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Experience
    Minimum of 1 year demonstrable experience of teaching to achieve positive learning outcomes. Experience using effective classroom strategies for children of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs. Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Other
    Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.

SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Knowledge
    Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice. Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice. Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to meet pupils' learning needs. Knowledge of Information Technology systems such as digital classroom tools and mobile technology. Knowledge of current assessment methods to inform teaching.

    Effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement. Proven ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment. Ability to use initiative, solve problems and be flexible. Ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, and the wider community. SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA

  • Qualifications & Experience
    Minimum of 1 year demonstrable experience of teaching Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 to achieve positive learning outcomes. Experience in monitoring pupil progress, performance, target setting and intervention. Experience assisting with the delivery of Art in a school environment. Ability to promote wellbeing initiatives and support the school’s Take 5 status. Ability to assist with maintaining the school's social media presence. Experience of leading, or willingness to lead, afterschool clubs.

DISCLOSURE OF CRIMINAL BACKGROUND
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as ‘regulated activity’. If you are recommended for appointment to a post involving regulated activity, the Education Authority will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background. You will be expected to cover the cost of this certificate at the pre‑employment stage.

JOB DESCRIPTION

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER

  • Planning and Preparing
    Plan and prepare courses and lessons. Set and mark work undertaken by pupils. Assess, record and report on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
  • General
    Promote the general progress and well‑being of pupils and groups. Provide advice and guidance on educational, social matters and future careers. Create records for personal and social needs of pupils. Communicate and consult with parents. Communicate and cooperate with external persons or bodies approved by the employing authority. Participate in meetings related to curriculum, administration, pastoral arrangements.
  • Assessment / Reporting
    Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references for individual pupils and groups.
  • Staff Development / Professional Development
    Participate in staff development schemes and performance reviews. Review teaching methods and programmes of work. Advise and cooperate with principal and colleagues on curriculum, teaching materials, assessment and pastoral arrangements.
  • Discipline / Health and Safety
    Maintain discipline and safeguard pupils’ health and safety on school premises and during authorised activities. Participate in curriculum-related meetings and pastoral meetings.
  • Public Examinations
    Prepare pupils for public examinations and assess them accordingly. Record and report exam assessments and supervise pupils during examinations.
  • Review and Development of Management Activities / Administration
    Contribute to the selection and professional development of other teachers, including induction of probationary teachers. Co‑ordinate or manage the work of other teachers. Participate in administrative tasks related to curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions. Assist in supervising support staff and ordering equipment and materials.
  • Work Hours
    A full‑time teacher should be available for work on 195 days each year, not more than 190 days for classroom teaching. Be available for duties at times specified by the principal or board. Work approximately 1,265 hours per year, excluding preparation, marking, and travel time. Follow break requirements: 30‑minute break between 12:00 and 14:00. 30‑minute break between 12:00 and 14:30 for nursery schools.
  • Staff Cover
    Provide supervisory coverage in accordance with enrolment guidelines as detailed in the full policy.
  • Other duties of a similar nature and appropriate to the grade may be assigned from time to time. The post holder is expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity and pay in accordance with the Northern Ireland Act (1998) and equality legislation.
