Professional Duties
- Planning
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons
- Teaching, according to pupils’ educational needs, including setting and marking work
- Assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ development, progress and attainment
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of pupils
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters
- Communicating and consulting with parents
- Co-operating with approved external persons or bodies
- Participating in relevant meetings
- Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils
- Participating in staff development and performance review schemes
- Reviewing teaching methods and programmes of work
- Participating in arrangements for professional development
- Advising and cooperating with Principal and other teachers on development of courses and materials
- Maintaining good order and discipline in accordance with policies and safeguarding pupils’ health and safety
- Participating in relevant school meetings
- Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and in assessing pupils
- Contributing to the selection, induction and assessment of other teachers
- Co-ordinating or managing the work of other teachers
- Participating in administrative and organisational tasks
- Providing supervising and teaching cover as required, following enrolment criteria
Working Hours
Full-time teacher: available for 195 days in any year, with a maximum of 190 days teaching in a classroom. Maximum of 25 hours teaching in any week in a primary or special school and 23.5 hours in any week in a secondary school. Minimum 30-minute break between noon and 2:00 pm (or 2:30 pm in nursery).
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a teaching qualification recognised for grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
- Minimum of 2 years’ paid demonstrable experience teaching in a mainstream primary school
- Experience of using a range of effective classroom strategies, including support and challenge for all abilities and for pupils with SEND
- Experience of using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning
- Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland before taking up post
Essential Criteria (Interview)
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, Safeguarding and Child Protection, SEND code, teaching strategies, IT systems and assessment methods
- Effective teaching and classroom management skills; inclusive learning environment
- Problem solving, initiative, flexibility, teamwork, and positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, parents, and community
- Evidence of alignment with the School’s values and ethos
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in Key Stage 2 teaching, monitoring pupil progress, setting targets and interventions
- Experience leading music or extra-curricular activities, outdoor learning, and community engagement
- Experience teaching pupils for whom English is not the first language
