REPORTS TO: Principal
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES OF A TEACHER
- Exercise of general professional duties.
- A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require.
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
- Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment.
- Promoting pupil progress and well-being; providing advice and guidance; maintaining records and reports; communicating with parents and others; and participating in meetings.
- Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references.
- Participation in staff development and performance review; ongoing review of teaching methods; professional development as a teacher.
- Maintaining good order and safeguarding health and safety of pupils; participating in curriculum and pastoral arrangements.
- Participating in examinations preparation and assessment; reporting and supervising pupil presentations for examinations.
- Contributing to the selection and development of other teachers; coordinating work; involvement in curriculum and pastoral development; administrative tasks; supervision of support staff; equipment and materials management.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Qualifications/Professional Membership β Hold a teaching qualification that meets the requirements to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification prepared to teach Technology and Design as main subject.
- Experience β Minimum of 3 monthsβ demonstrable experience teaching Technology and Design at Key Stage 3 and 4; experience using a range of teaching strategies; experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Other β Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Knowledge β Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding and child protection policy, SEND Code of Practice, teaching strategies, IT systems and digital tools, and current assessment methods.
- Skills/Abilities β Effective teaching and classroom management; inclusive learning environment; collaborative work; teamwork; motivation of self and others.
- Values Orientation β Evidence of alignment with the Schoolβs Values/ethos.
SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Qualifications And Experience β More experience teaching Technology and Design or Engineering; experience supporting and challenging pupils of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs.
