Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor (reports to Catering Manager through Area Catering Manager)
Job Purpose
Assist the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor in all activities concerning the preparation and cooking of meals, supporting a hygienic, efficient service that achieves customer satisfaction and promotes sales.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a full range of meals, including menu preparation, portion control, special dietary meals and function catering.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and documentation.
- Control hygiene, health and safety in the kitchen, including temperature recording.
- Direct and share supervision of other employees.
- Operatively control service points, including transported meals.
- Handle associated administrative duties such as meal planning, stock‑taking, organisation of storage, receipt of deliveries, and general kitchen management in the absence of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor.
- Provide training to staff and perform cash handling duties where appropriate.
- Carry out general kitchen duties: washing up; setting up and clearing equipment and tables; cleaning the kitchen, dining room surrounds and equipment.
- Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
- Secure premises as required and perform other duties delegated in connection with service provision.
- Ensure all duties comply with Acts of Parliament, statutory instruments, regulations, codes of practice and legal requirements.
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706‑1 & 706‑2 or equivalent higher qualification.
- Or, two (2) years’ experience of food preparation and cooking within a catering establishment.
- Knowledge of HACCP.
- Willingness to undertake job‑related training.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage effectively within a team and with customers.
- Excellent interpersonal and team‑working skills.
- Effective organisational and planning skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Motivation toward providing excellent food and customer service.
- Values orientation reflecting the Education Authority’s ethos and values.

- Any additional relevant qualifications or experience, where applicable.
