You must clearly demonstrate on your application form under each question, how, and to what extent you meet the required criteria as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted. SECTION 1 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Qualifications/ Professional Membership
- Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
- Experience
- Have a minimum of 2 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching in a nursery school and/or primary school at foundation stage and/or key stage 1 (post qualification & paid), within the last 7 years.
- Demonstrate experience of working with pupils with SEN needs, outlining effective approaches used to support pupils.
- Demonstrate experience of working with pupils with SBEW needs, outlining effective approaches used to support pupils.
- Demonstrable knowledge of a Nurturing philosophy and principles at whole school level.
- Be willing to support the school’s Pastoral Care Team through leading whole school Pastoral Care initiatives.
- Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively to promote positive relationships with parents/carers and the wider community to develop pupil outcomes.
- If the candidate does not have attained the Nurture UK ‘Theory and Practice of Nurture Groups’ qualification, be willing to do so within the first year of appointment.

SECTION 2 - ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum
- Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice
- Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and its implications
- Current working knowledge of a range of teaching strategies to effectively meet the learning needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and SBEW
- Knowledge and understanding of current assessment methods used with children and young people who have Special Educational Needs in order to diagnose, plan for learning and measure progress
- Demonstrable knowledge of approaches to promoting positive behaviour for learning
- Knowledge of the principles of Nurture and adverse childhood experiences/trauma informed practice.

- Demonstrate effective teaching and classroom management skills to inspire and challenge pupils to raise achievement in a supportive, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

SECTION 3 - DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Qualifications and Experience
- Have a minimum of 3 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching in a nursery school and/or primary school at foundation stage and/or key stage 1 (paid) within the last 8 years.
- Be willing to assist and lead pastoral care and wellbeing initiatives in school.
- Demonstrate the impact of leading whole school pastoral care and / or wellbeing initiatives for at least 3 months.
- Demonstrable experience of working with a range of professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs.
- Have a minimum of 6 months teaching experience, in a paid capacity, in a primary school nurture room and / or Foundation Stage specialist provision within the last 6 years.
- Have attained the Nurture UK ‘Theory and Practice of Nurture Groups’ qualification.
- Additional training or qualifications in SBEW / Trauma Informed Practice.
