Job Purpose

Undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of any area within the premises, designated by the line manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sweep, suction clean, mop, dry buff, spray clean, spray wax, machine scrub and dry, strip and re‑polish floors using appropriate equipment.
  • Clean and remove stains of soft floor surfaces using appropriate methods.
  • Clean toilet and shower areas including fixtures and fittings.
  • Clean, wash and dust ledges, walls, fixtures, fittings and internal surfaces up to 3.35m; polish furniture where appropriate.
  • Empty and clean internal litter bins and remove litter to designated collection points.
  • Carry out all duties in compliance with Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, COSHH Regulations, Codes of Practice and other statutory requirements.
  • Cover colleagues on sick leave in line with the Authority’s procedure; report absence and complete relevant forms.
  • Wear protective clothing, workwear and flat‑soled, enclosed‑toe footwear when required; report any defective equipment immediately.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork associated with duties.
  • Perform duties for jobs within the same grade or those that are within the competence of the employee.

Training

Accept induction, refresher and further training required for higher‑grade duties; payment provided only if higher‑level duties are required by the authority.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience in cleaning educational facilities.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, machinery and COSHH regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Organisation and planning skills.
  • Teamworking ability; flexible to follow instructions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Three months’ experience of cleaning outside the home environment.
  • Experience using a range of commercial cleaning tools.

Disclosure

Applicants for a regulated activity must undergo an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background. The cost (USD £33) will be borne by the candidate.
