PROFESSIONAL DUTIES

  • Exercise general professional duties as outlined in Regulation 5 of the TEACHERS’ (TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT) REGULATIONS.
  • Plan and prepare courses and lessons, mark work, and assess, record and report pupils’ progress and attainment.
  • Promote pupils’ general progress and well-being; provide advice and guidance on educational and social matters and maintain relevant records.
  • Communicate and consult with parents and other relevant persons or bodies approved by the employing authority.
  • Participate in meetings, staff development schemes, performance reviews and professional development activities.
  • Maintain good order and discipline, safeguard pupils’ health and safety, and participate in pastoral arrangements.
  • Assist pupils in preparing for public examinations, assess and report on these examinations, and supervise examination presentations.
  • Contribute to the selection, induction and assessment of other teachers and manage the work of other teachers where required.
  • Coordinate or manage support staff, order and allocate equipment and materials.
  • Attend assemblies and register pupils’ attendance when required.
  • Ensure availability for the stipulated number of days and hours, observe prescribed breaks, and meet any additional duties reasonably required by the Principal or board.
  • Provide staff cover and teaching cover in accordance with Chapter 9 of the Regulations, where enrolment levels and policy criteria permit.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification capable of teaching in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year demonstrable experience using a range of effective classroom strategies to support and challenge children and young people of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEND).
  • Develop positive relationships for learning with children and young people.
  • Work with a range of professionals to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.
  • Use specialist equipment, facilities or skills to meet the needs of pupils with SEND.
  • Use digital media and technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Possess current working knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum, safeguarding and child protection practices, the SEND Code of Practice, assessment methods for pupils with SEND, restorative practice, and educational information technology systems.
  • Exhibit effective teaching and classroom management skills, create an inclusive learning environment, and collaborate with colleagues, parents and the wider community.
