Reports to: Principal
Professional Duties of a Teacher
- Exercise of general professional duties under the reasonable direction of the principal or board.
- Exercise of particular duties as assigned by the principal.
Planning
- Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
- Teaching according to the educational needs of pupils, including setting and marking work.
- Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.
General
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and groups.
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters.
- Making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils.
- Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils.
- Co-operating with approved persons or bodies outside the school.
- Participating in meetings for the above purposes.
Assessment/Reporting
- Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils.
Staff Development/Professional Development
- Participating in staff development and performance review.
- Reviewing methods of teaching and programmes of work.
- Participating in further training and professional development.
- Advising and co-operating with the Principal and other teachers on course preparation and development.
Discipline/Health and Safety
- Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils.
- Participating in meetings related to the curriculum or administration of the school.
Public Examinations
- Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations.
Review and Development of Management Activities/Administration
- Contributing to the selection and professional development of other teachers.
- Participating in administrative tasks related to curriculum and pastoral functions.
Attendance
- Attending assemblies and registering the attendance of pupils.
Number of days/Hours of work
- A full-time teacher shall be available for work on 195 days in any year.
- Teachers may not be required to teach more than 25 hours in a week in primary schools.
- Teachers shall have a break of at least 30 minutes between specified hours.
Staff cover
- Supervising and teaching pupils whose teacher is not available under specified conditions.
Other duties
- Other duties of a similar nature may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience and qualifications relevant to leading SEN withdrawal learning support.
- Additional training in using Promethean Interactive Boards.
- Experience of leading wider school activities.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a teaching qualification recognised in Northern Ireland.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in teaching at Foundation Stage.
- Demonstrable experience of effective classroom strategies.
- Experience coordinating PDMU and leading whole school development.
Other
- Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI).
Knowledge
- Knowledge of Northern Ireland Curriculum and Safeguarding policies.
- Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and teaching strategies.
- Knowledge of Information Technology systems and current assessment methods.
- Effective teaching and classroom management skills.
- Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and motivate others.
