Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years post‑qualification teaching experience in primary education and/or equivalent experience in an affiliated educational body working in an area that relates to the primary sector within the last 10 years.
  • Currently hold or have held for a minimum of 3 years and within the last 8 years a post with experience of strategic leadership or co‑ordination of a whole‑school area at a minimum level of Head of Key Stage/member of SMT/SLT including monitoring and evaluation resulting in measurable school improvement; experience as a Principal or Vice‑Principal; leadership and management experience within an affiliated body (including acting positions).
  • Evidence of how your leadership has led to school improvement.
  • Evidence of involvement in strategic planning.

Preference may be given to those applicants who:

  • Can demonstrate evidence of involvement in staff development within school/s.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years continuous post‑qualification teaching experience in primary education.
  • Have experience of financial and/or budgetary management within school/s.

Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the Principal when necessary and take an active part in all aspects of school life.
  • Lead learning through example by high standards of teaching, learning and by promoting the ethos, vision and values of the school.
  • Assist the Principal in all areas of leading learning, teaching, school administration, management and organisation.
  • Be involved in School Development Planning, School Evaluation, Self‑Evaluations and Staff Development (INSET).
  • Co‑ordinate curriculum development, oversee the Heads of Key Stage and oversee the delivery of the curriculum across Key Stages.
  • Assist with the co‑ordination of End‑of‑Key‑Stage assessment and oversee pastoral care, including the organisation of the school counselling service.
  • Be the designated Teacher for Child Protection and a member of the school safeguarding team.
  • Lead and develop the role of school council/pupil voice.
  • Act as line manager for classroom assistants, general, and SEN staff, including organising cover.
  • Co‑ordinate promotion of positive behaviour and implementation of the anti‑bullying policy.
  • Responsibility for the development and organisation of extra‑curricular activities and for assisting with lunch time cover.
  • Assist with financial administration, including budget planning, projections, allocations, monitoring spend and reconciliations.
  • Assist the Principal in the administration of school fund accounts.
  • Maintain timetables and rotas.
  • Develop links with parents, including membership of the school PTA committee.
  • Participate in extra‑curricular activities and residential trips.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Principal.
