We are working with a highly regarded higher education provider to recruit a Student Data & Business Intelligence Analyst. This is a key position within the organisation, responsible for managing and enhancing the institution’s data reporting infrastructure to ensure the delivery of accurate, high-quality information for both statutory compliance and strategic decision-making. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with the successful candidate required to attend the Sidcup campus once a week to collaborate with colleagues, attend key meetings, and engage directly with stakeholders. As the Student Data & Business Intelligence Analyst, you will be at the forefront of the organisation’s data management, ensuring that systems are optimised, data is reliable, and reporting is insightful. You will design, develop, and maintain high-quality reports, dashboards, and analytical tools to support both operational needs and long-term planning. You will work closely with the Student Records Team, IT Services, and a range of professional services and academic teams, as well as external statutory bodies such as HESA and the OfS. Your work will directly contribute to improving institutional performance, compliance, and the overall student experience. Data Analysis & Reporting – Create and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to extract and analyse data efficiently. Build engaging, interactive dashboards in Power BI, and develop SSRS reports for operational, management, and statutory purposes. System Administration – Administer and configure the Student Records System (e.g., UNIT-e), managing workflows, code sets, and user permissions. Collaborate with IT and suppliers to test and implement upgrades and new features. Data Quality & Governance – Implement and monitor data validation processes to ensure accuracy and consistency. Develop data dictionaries and metadata standards, and support data governance initiatives to ensure compliance with GDPR. Statutory Returns – Compile, validate, and submit datasets for HESA, Graduate Outcomes, NSS, and OfS. Reconcile outputs, respond to validation queries, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to maintain accuracy. Project Work & Systems Development – Lead or support projects to improve system capabilities, enhance integrations, and develop ETL processes for combining data from multiple sources such as CRM and VLE platforms. Stakeholder Engagement – Partner with academic and professional colleagues to identify reporting needs and provide data-driven solutions to support decision-making and policy development. About You You’ll be a highly capable data specialist with a keen eye for accuracy and a strong understanding of the higher or further education landscape. You will bring: Degree-level qualification in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field – or equivalent experience. Advanced SQL skills, including joins, subqueries, and performance tuning. Experience building and managing reports in Power BI (including DAX and Power Query) and SSRS . Understanding of data governance frameworks and GDPR compliance. Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences. Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with a focus on service delivery. Desirable experience: Previous work with HESA/OfS returns. Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS or Azure Data Factory. Administration of student record systems such as UNIT-e. Knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, or XML data formats. Why This Role?
