An established and highly regarded training organisation in the East Midlands is looking to welcome a Trainer in Animal Care to its growing team. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who believes in the power of education, enjoys working with young people, and wants to play a hands-on role in helping learners build skills, confidence, and brighter futures. This organisation is known for its inclusive culture, strong learner outcomes, and commitment to continuous improvement.

As a Trainer in Animal Care, you’ll work with 16–18-year-old learners who are taking important steps towards employment, further training, or independence. Many arrive with varied experiences, confidence levels, and learning needs — and your role is to meet them where they are, then help them move forward. You’ll deliver engaging, well-planned training through a blend of classroom-based learning and practical sessions, including regular visits to a local farm. Your teaching will focus not just on technical knowledge, but on building employability skills, resilience, and a sense of achievement.

Alongside delivery, you’ll act as a key point of support for your learner group. You’ll track progress, celebrate successes, address challenges early, and work collaboratively with colleagues — including English and Maths specialists — to ensure each learner stays motivated and on programme. Quality and care go hand in hand here. You’ll maintain accurate learner records, contribute to quality assurance processes, and uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and equality standards at all times.

You’ll also be encouraged to share ideas, challenge practices constructively, and contribute to the ongoing development of the provision. To deliver qualifications to 16 to 18 year old learners, this can be achieved through structured taught sessions, in-house, and on a local farm, so that learners can achieve and progress.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Meeting the needs of learners from a wide range of backgrounds, ensuring they maximise their potential and achieve the skills, knowledge and competence required to succeed in their role and achieve a relevant qualification.
  • Raising the achievement of all learners, reinforcing the company’s high expectations of learners regardless of their level and results.
  • Ensuring that learners have stretching targets which maintain their motivation, are focused on the challenges ahead, and encourage lifelong learning.
  • Being aware of business needs and maintaining a focus on timely and effective achievement of targets.
  • Challenging all practices and procedures within your role and throughout the organisation, to contribute to and ensure continuous improvement and quality.
  • Planning and delivering high quality training to learners that identifies individual learning needs, preferred approaches and prior skills and knowledge, to ensure maximum impact.
  • Making good and effective use of ICT demonstrating active learning.
  • Being responsible for a given caseload of learners in terms of progression and achievement in accordance with all contractual requirements.
  • Liaising with English & Maths Trainers to ensure that learners are motivated to stay on programme and achieve their qualifications.
  • Maintaining both paper based and electronic assessment records and quality processes as required to meet needs of any contractual arrangements and awarding bodies.
  • Keeping accurate records of all learners’ progress towards their qualification and attendance.
  • Working to the quality standards and process requirements by the organisation and Awarding Bodies, attending standardisation meetings when required.
  • Ensuring that Equality and Diversity practices are embedded in practice and promoted throughout in everyday practices with learners, employers, colleagues and other interested parties.
  • Complying with the companies Equality Opportunity, Health & Safety and Safeguarding policies ensuring that any issues are handled and referred appropriately.
  • Contributing to the generation of new opportunities/business in general, ensuring that our provision reflects local communities.
  • Keeping up to date with changes and taking advantage of learning opportunities to develop skills, expertise and knowledge.
  • Undertaking any other duties/projects relevant to the post.

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, responsibility, and meaningful relationships at work. You might already be an experienced trainer or teacher, or you may be coming from industry with a desire to pass on your skills and knowledge. What matters most is your commitment to learners, your ability to communicate clearly and positively, and your willingness to adapt your approach to suit different individuals.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Recent, relevant experience within Animal Care.
  • A Level 3 qualification (or higher) in a related subject.
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging sessions for mixed-ability groups.
  • GCSE English and Maths (grade 4 or equivalent).
  • A driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Teaching, training, or assessor qualifications are welcomed but not essential. If you’re keen to develop in these areas, support and training can be provided.

You’ll be someone who is organised, approachable, and resilient — able to manage your own diary, respond calmly to challenges, and maintain high expectations while remaining empathetic and supportive.
