Are you an experienced plumbing or gas professional who wants more than just another job on the tools? Do you enjoy helping others grow, sharing your knowledge, and seeing learners build confidence and capability because of your support? An award-winning construction and building services training provider is looking for a Plumbing, Gas & Renewables Tutor & Assessor to join their dedicated and welcoming team in Bristol. This is a role with real purpose — one where your trade experience directly shapes careers, strengthens the future workforce, and helps apprentices succeed both professionally and personally.
This organisation is proud of the quality of its training — and it shows. Class sizes are intentionally small (no more than 12 learners), giving you the time and space to teach properly, get to know your learners, and tailor your approach. You’ll be joining a team that values professionalism, kindness, and high standards. There’s a strong emphasis on safeguarding, positive role modelling, and creating a calm, supportive learning environment where apprentices feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow.
Unlike many education roles, this position is designed with sustainability in mind. Teaching days never exceed four per week, ensuring you have protected time for planning, preparation, assessments, and admin — without constant pressure or overload.
Main Purpose
As a Plumbing, Gas & Renewables Tutor & Assessor, you’ll play a central role in supporting apprentices throughout their journey. Your work will be varied and engaging, combining classroom delivery, workplace assessment, and one-to-one learner support.
Responsibilities
- Delivering high-quality training and assessment to apprentices
- Supporting learners to build confidence, competence, and professional pride
- Preparing apprentices for End Point Assessment when required
- Conducting on-site workplace assessments and reviews
- Monitoring learner progress through central tracking systems
- Reviewing off-the-job training journals and setting personal development targets
- Completing progress reviews every 10–12 weeks
- Acting as a positive role model, demonstrating the behaviours and values expected within the industry
Above all, you’ll help create a learning experience that is supportive, motivating, and genuinely life-changing for apprentices. You’ll be an experienced trade professional who wants to give something back — someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys helping others develop.
You’ll need:
- A Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in Plumbing & Heating
- At least two years’ industry experience
- An assessor qualification (or a willingness to work towards one)
- Current ACS qualifications, including CCN1, CENWAT, MET1, CKR1, HTR1 and CONGLP1PD
Experience in training, mentoring, or assessment is highly desirable, and teaching qualifications are welcomed but not essential. Knowledge of unvented systems and water regulations would be an advantage.
Most importantly, you’ll bring a learner-focused mindset, strong values, and a genuine desire to help apprentices succeed.
If you’re looking for a role where:
- Your trade experience is truly valued
- Teaching quality comes before quantity
- Learners are supported, not rushed
- Work–life balance is respected
- And your work genuinely makes a difference
…then this could be the perfect next step in your career.
