Help shape confident, capable electricians — at the most important moment of their journey. This is more than an assessing role. It’s an opportunity to have a lasting impact on the electrical industry, supporting learners at the point where their training becomes a career.

An established and highly regarded electrical training provider is seeking an AM2 Examiner to join its professional assessment team at a dedicated AM2 centre in Birmingham. Working at the final stage of qualification, you’ll support apprentices and experienced candidates as they complete one of the most significant assessments of their working lives.

For many learners, the AM2 represents years of hard work, pressure, and ambition. Your role is to ensure that assessment is fair, structured, and supportive, while upholding the high standards the industry depends on.

Based at a modern AM2 assessment centre, you’ll typically assess up to six candidates per week. Some will be completing the full AM2, while others may be resitting individual elements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering clear, calm, one-to-one inductions so candidates understand the process
  • Observing candidates throughout their assessment without interruption
  • Marking installations, test & inspection work, and fault-finding activities against established criteria
  • Dismantling and resetting bays ready for the next candidate
  • Ensuring assessment materials and stock levels are maintained
  • Supporting other practical assessments when AM2 testing is not scheduled

The role follows clear national standards, with structured guidance and procedures in place to ensure assessments are fair and consistent across all candidates.

If you’re an experienced electrician who enjoys mentoring, coaching, or supporting others — but doesn’t want to leave the trade entirely — this role offers the perfect balance. You’ll stay hands-on with installations, testing, and fault-finding, while enjoying:

  • A stable, structured working week
  • A professional, well-organised assessment environment
  • Clear procedures and marking criteria
  • Time to focus on quality rather than quantity
  • A supportive team that values consistency, fairness, and professionalism

You’ll be trusted as a subject-matter expert and given the time and tools to do the job properly. You may already be involved in mentoring apprentices on site, supervising teams, or supporting junior electricians — and looking for a role where your experience truly counts.

You’ll need:

  • Full electrical qualifications (Level 2 & 3 plus NVQ Level 3 or a completed electrical apprenticeship)
  • Eligibility for an ECS Gold Card
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a qualified electrician within the construction sector
  • 18th Edition and Test & Inspection qualifications
  • Strong health & safety awareness
  • Confidence working with people of varying experience levels and abilities
  • An assessor qualification is welcome but not essential. If you’re coming directly from industry, full training and support will be provided to help you transition into assessment work. First Aid training will also be funded as part of your induction.

Most importantly, you’ll bring:

  • A calm, professional approach
  • A fair and consistent mindset
  • A genuine desire to see others succeed

If you’re an experienced electrician looking for a rewarding next step — one that values your expertise, offers stability, and allows you to shape the future of the trade — this could be an excellent move.
