Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to support pupils with a range of additional needs. You will play a key role in helping children access the curriculum, develop socially and emotionally, and achieve their individual learning goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with special educational needs
  • Assist in implementing Educational Healthcare Plans
  • Support the class teacher in adapting lessons and resources to meet pupils’ needs
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals
  • Support pupils during classroom activities, break times, and structured play sessions
  • Contribute to monitoring and recording pupil progress

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is highly desirable
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • A valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is essential
