Role Overview
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to support pupils with a range of additional needs. You will play a key role in helping children access the curriculum, develop socially and emotionally, and achieve their individual learning goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with special educational needs
- Assist in implementing Educational Healthcare Plans
- Support the class teacher in adapting lessons and resources to meet pupils’ needs
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals
- Support pupils during classroom activities, break times, and structured play sessions
- Contribute to monitoring and recording pupil progress
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is highly desirable
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- A good standard of literacy and numeracy
- A valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is essential
