Salary: £24,755 – £26,111 FTE (£18,323.92 – £19,327.65 per annum, pro rata), depending on experience. Pension provided.
Job type: Permanent. Hours: 0.74 fraction (34 hrs/week, 5 days/week for 36 weeks/year).
About the Role: The ALS team supports students in achieving their learning goals, both inside and outside the classroom. A fully inclusive approach is used, creating adapted learning materials and sourcing accessible technology. The Inclusion Assistant promotes an accessible, equitable learning environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement highly effective strategies to support students with diverse additional learning needs, promoting independence and tailoring support to individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), support plans, and assessment targets.
- Assist teaching staff with the delivery of outstanding teaching and learning, including the use of specialist assistive technology, to ensure students achieve planned outcomes.
- Interpret instructions to aid students in following directions and managing communication challenges, ensuring equal access.
- Maintain accurate, timely departmental records and contribute to setting and monitoring individual targets, including annual EHCP outcome reviews.
- Provide support with study skills, pastoral needs, and community access in 1:1 or small groups, aiding students to navigate challenges and progress toward their goals.
- Assist with personal care, mobility aid, medication administration, and individual arrangements for students with complex support needs.
- Support students in engaging with work experience opportunities, liaising with employers and the Work Experience coordinator, coaching students for interviews, and maintaining department placement records.
- Adhere to confidentiality, college SEND, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding policies.
- Contribute to curriculum team work, attend curriculum events, course and department meetings, and engage in professional development including SEND specific training.
- Promote equality and diversity, uphold the Health & Safety at Work Act, safeguard the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and comply with North Hertfordshire College policies and procedures.
- Carry out any additional duties appropriate to the grade of the post.
Person Specification:
- Experience working with vulnerable young people who have SEND, including neurodiversity and social–emotional and mental health challenges.
- Commitment to improving opportunities for young people with SEND, especially in independence, health and well-being, social inclusion and work opportunities.
- Level 2 qualification in learning support or a related discipline.
- Clear communication of outcomes and broader impacts of the role.
- Effective decision-making and problem-solving within remit; good judgement and flexible adaptation to change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, sensitivity and respect for others.
- Proactive personal development, willingness to learn new approaches, and accountability for results.
- Collaborative working, customer-focused service delivery, and organized task completion.
